This exploration of Old San Juan, lasting approximately three hours, begins with a stroll of approximately 20 minutes along Paseo de la Princesa, a tree-lined promenade offering views of San Juan Bay and the city walls. You’ll then step into the historic heart of the city through the photogenic San Juan Gate (Puerta de San Juan).

Pause at the La Rogativa monument for around 15 minutes for a photo break and to hear the story of the local women who played a pivotal role in thwarting a British invasion in 1797. While there, soak up views of San Juan Bay and La Fortaleza, the governor’s residence.

Next, spend approximately one hour exploring Castillo San Felipe del Morro. Situated in a strategic position on a rocky promontory, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a showcase of military history, complete with tunnels, towers and commanding views.

Afterwards, spend around 15 minutes wandering through the Ballajá Barracks (a former military residence turned cultural hub) and adjacent Plaza del Quinto Centenario, home to a towering totem honouring the indigenous Taíno people. Then, spend approximately 15 minutes walking to and pausing at San José Church, thought to be one of the oldest in the Americas and an early example of Spanish Gothic architecture.

A section of approximately 15 minutes takes you down Cristo Street, lined with colourful colonial buildings, to the quaint Capilla del Cristo (Chapel of Christ), for a final stop of approximately 15 minutes.

Important Information: The price of the tour includes admission to the San Felipe del Morro Fort. Guests are advised to ask for and keep the receipt at the Fort of San Felipe del Morro as proof of purchase. Daily fort opening times are between 09:00 to 16:30 hours. Your culinary adventure, lasting approximately four hours, starts with a short walk from the pier through Old San Juan to the El Convento Hotel. At this former convent transformed into a hotel, you’ll enjoy a cocktail and a Puerto Rican fritter (a popular street food snack) over approximately one hour, served in the atmospheric courtyard.

You’ll then move on to Chocobar Cortés, a chocolate shop and cafe run by the Cortés family since 1929. Spend around one hour sampling their signature dark chocolate paired with cheddar cheese, and sipping Puerto Rican coffee laced with chocolate. Don’t miss the upstairs art gallery, the nonprofit Fundación Casa Cortés, which promotes Caribbean art and provided education support to children after Hurricane Maria.

Your third stop is Lounge Cultura, a culinary school set in a restored private home. Over the next 45 minutes, delve into Puerto Rico’s culinary traditions with a hands-on session. Learn to make mofongo (a local dish featuring mashed cassava), enjoy a crispy cheese pastry with guava sauce, and shake up a rum-based cocktail.

Afterwards, enjoy a 20-minute stop at Señor Paleta for artisanal gelato or sorbet before wrapping up your tour in a local bar for around 40 minutes, Here, you’ll get a primer on Puerto Rican rum and discover the secrets behind making the island’s famous piña colada cocktail. Finally, return to the pier on a 15-minute walk.

Start with an approximately 15-minute stroll along Paseo de la Princesa, a leafy seaside promenade filled with street vendors and antique streetlamps. Over the next 20 minutes or so, the path leads to the bronze Fuente Raíces (Roots Fountain), which celebrates Puerto Rico’s blend of Taíno, African and Spanish heritage.

Around 20 minutes later, enter the old city through San Juan Gate (Puerta de San Juan), a red-painted archway built in 1635, and make your way to the Cathedral of San Juan for a short viewing of its facade. For approximately 15 minutes, move on through Plaza de Armas, Old San Juan’s main square, and arrive at a local venue, Lounge Cultura, for a memorable experience: a mofongo and mojito culinary demonstration and dining experience, lasting approximately 90 minutes.

Enjoy Puerto Rican appetizers as the chef demonstrates how to prepare cassava mofongo. Your experience wraps up with a tasting of this traditional dish and a refreshing mojito. The walk back to the pier takes around 20 minutes.

CITY AND RAINFOREST EXPERIENCE

Experience Puerto Rico’s history and natural beauty on this guided excursion. Over the course of approximately four hours, you’ll explore Old San Juan and San Cristóbal Fortress before delving into the tropical El Yunque National Forest to witness firsthand the island’s biodiversity.

Excursion Details

Puerto Rico’s El Yunque is the only tropical rainforest in the United States National Forest System. Though relatively compact at nearly 28,000 acres, it teems with diverse plant and animal life, including the tiny coquí frog and the endangered Puerto Rican parrot, neither of which are found anywhere else in the world.

This approximately four-hour long excursion combines El Yunque’s natural wonders with some of the island’s historical highlights. Start with a short drive to San Cristóbal Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll have about 45 minutes to explore its tunnels, watchtowers and defensive walls, which offer panoramic views of the city and the Caribbean Sea.

The approximately 50-minute drive from the fortress to El Yunque passes through New San Juan, offering a glimpse of the upscale Condado District, known for its beachfront and luxury hotels.

Once at El Yunque National Forest, guests will enjoy a guided scenic drive of approximately 15 minutes to Yokahú Observation Tower, offering panoramic views of the rainforest canopy and coastline. A 20-minute stop will be made for photos before reboarding the bus.The journey then continues with a paused drive-through at La Coca Falls, located about 20 minutes away. This impressive waterfall cascades 85 feet down a series of rocky steps, surrounded by lush greenery—an excellent opportunity to admire and photograph the scenery from the vehicle.

Following La Coca Falls, there will be a 30-minute stop at the Mameyes River, where guests can experience its natural beauty and, if they wish, touch the refreshing river water. The tour then proceeds to Puente Roto for another 30 minutes, allowing guests to further enjoy the natural surroundings of the area.

After an approximately 15-minute drive to a local souvenir shop, there’ll be an optional shopping stop of around 15 minutes – time permitting – before the ride back to the pier, lasting around 45 minutes.

Step back in time on this approximately 90-minute guided walking tour through Old San Juan, one of the oldest settlements in the Americas, founded in 1521. The tour begins with a walk of around 15 minutes along Paseo de la Princesa, a waterfront path flanked by fountains, flowers and grand buildings like La Princesa, a former prison. Enjoy bay views before entering the heart of Old San Juan through San Juan Gate (Puerta de San Juan), a huge, red stone arch that was once the primary gateway to the walled city.

From here, proceed to La Rogativa Square to spend about 15 minutes enjoying views of La Fortaleza (Governor’s Mansion) and a monument honouring the courageous local women who helped defend the city from the British in 1797. Continue to the Castille San Felipe del Morro, where you’ll have about 20 minutes to explore the grounds and enjoy views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Next, you’ll visit the Ballajá neighbourhood, known for its plazas, colonial buildings and a totem sculpture honouring the island’s indigenous Taíno people. There’s a brief pause here, and you’ll spend a short time admiring the area’s colourful architecture and historical buildings.

The excursion concludes with a stroll down Calle del Cristo, with its mix of shops and restaurants, ending at the 18th-century Capilla del Cristo before a return to the port.

BACARDI LEGACY and CITY TOUR

Visit the world’s largest rum distillery during this approximately three-and-a-half-hour excursion. The return journey includes photo stops at San Juan landmarks such as the Capitol Building and the Castillo San Cristóbal fortress.

Make a pilgrimage to The Cathedral of Rum –  aka Casa Bacardí –  during this approximately three-and-a-half-hour excursion. Founded in the 1930s, when the company decided to start making its rum outside of Cuba, it is today the largest rum distillery in the world.

Following a bus journey of around 30 minutes, narrated by a guide, arrive at the distillery and take about half an hour to get settled and enjoy a complimentary welcome drink. From there, hop on a trolley for a short ride to a museum, where you’ll learn about the Bacardí family And the brand’s history during a guided tour of around 45 minutes.

Before returning to the port, you’ll embark on a guided bus tour of San Juan. The first section involves an approximately 30-minute drive to the Condado neighbourhood in the region informally known as ‘New San Juan’, before an external photo stop of around 25 minutes at the neoclassical Capitol Building, followed by another external photo stop (including historical information from your guide) of approximately 25 minutes at Castillo San Cristóbal fortress, the largest Spanish fortification in the Americas. The bus then drives around 20 minutes to return to the port.

PANORAMIC SAN JUAN CITY EXPRESS

See the highlights of Puerto Rico’s capital on this approximately two-and-a-half-hour bus tour. As you travel, hear stories from your guide about the landmarks you pass, including the historic El Morro fortress and the beachfront park known as ‘The Window to the Sea’.

Discover the best of both Old and New San Juan during this approximately two-and-a-half-hour excursion. The outing begins with a short meeting at the port before boarding a bus and enjoying a scenic drive of about 25 minutes to the historic centre. Here, you’ll see the Capitol Building and the famous Paseo de los Presidentes (aka The Walkway of the Presidents), home to multiple statues of US presidents who have visited Puerto Rico since 1898.

An approximately 20-minute drive through New San Juan follows, featuring views of the luxurious oceanfront resorts of Isla Verde and Condado. The latter is home to La Ventana al Mar (The Window to the Sea), a public park flanked by two famous hotels and the Atlantic Ocean. Spend approximately 30 minutes here before reboarding the bus and continuing for around 25 minutes into Old San Juan.

Stop at Plaza del Quinto Centenario (Square of the Fifth Centenary) for about 20 minutes. This square was created in 1992 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s first voyage to the Americas. Admire the granite and clay totem pole at its centre and the views across to the El Morro fortress and the water below.

Continue with a short drive through Old San Juan, followed by a brief stop to allow guests who want to carry on sightseeing or shopping on their own to disembark. Guests who wish to do this can then independently return to the port later (in good time for their ship’s departure), while a short transfer will take those remaining onboard the bus back to the port.

ATV ADVENTURE – DOUBLE SEATER

Move your Puerto Rico visit into a higher gear on this exciting excursion, lasting approximately four hours, as you drive an ATV (all-terrain vehicle) through varied landscapes. After zipping around on your ATV, you’ll be able to unwind with a cocktail at a mojito bar.

Take an ATV out for a spin to see rural Puerto Rico up-close on this approximately four-hour excursion. Begin with a transfer of around 30 minutes from the port to Hacienda Campo Rico, the venue where you’ll pick up your vehicle. Spend around 30 minutes checking in, followed by around 15 minutes to meet your guides and receive a safety briefing.

Once fully prepared, hop onto your ATV and enjoy around 90 minutes of riding time. You’ll be driving past old plantations, fruit fields, vegetation and all kinds of other sights and scenery. Your ride is a great way to experience Puerto Rico’s lush, green countryside without testing your legs.

After the driving time is over, there’s a closing talk of around 15 minutes followed by approximately 30 minutes to enjoy the on-site mojito bar at Hacienda Campo Rico. Sit back and relax with a mojito or other drink (all drinks must be purchased separately by guests) as you reflect on your adventure. The drive back to the port lasts around 30 minutes.

HORSEBACK RIDING ADVENTURE

Hacienda Campo Rico, a former agricultural plantation founded well over 100 years ago, now offers a wide range of outdoor adventures. On this excursion, lasting around four hours, you’ll explore its sprawling grounds on horseback, providing a memorable way to experience Puerto Rico’s landscapes.

After a drive of approximately 30 minutes from the port to the ranch, there’s a check-in session lasting around 30 minutes. Then, meet your guides for a safety briefing lasting approximately 15 minutes.

Now that you’re ready to mount your trained, Paso Fino horse, take to the saddle and spend the next 90 minutes or so riding. Follow your guide through fields of tropical fruit and vegetation, tranquil lagoons and coastal plains, while enjoying views of the surrounding mountains.

After the ride, there’s approximately 15 minutes for a closing talk before heading to the venue’s hilltop mojito bar. Unwind on the terrace with a cocktail (drinks are not included in the excursion cost and must be purchased separately) for approximately 30 minutes as you reflect on the day’s activity.

The return transfer back to the port takes around half an hour, concluding the excursion.

ORIGINAL CANOPY TOUR AT HACIENDA CAMPO RICO

Excursion details

This active excursion of around four and a half hours is a chance to enjoy views of San Juan’s scenery from way up high – all the way up in a forest canopy, where you’ll be embarking on a zip-lining adventure.

A transfer from the port of around 30 minutes begins the excursion, transporting guests to Hacienda Campo Rico, a former agricultural plantation spread across 2,000 acres. Upon arrival, you’ll have about 15 minutes for orientation and preparation, followed by approximately 20 minutes to get your equipment fitted, and then a brief safety briefing.

You’ll make the short walk to begin the day’s activities, crossing the first of five ‘hanging bridges’to give you a taster of the forest landscape and scenery. After this you’ll begin the canopy tour of approximately one hour and 40 minutes, travelling smoothly across a series of five zip-lines that take you through the forest canopy. Admire the greenery around and below as you sail through the air, taking in the high-altitude views across Puerto Rico’s capital and beyond.

Afterwards you will have approximately 30 minutes of free time, which could be used to purchase a cocktail or food at the venue’s mojito bar or simply relax after your activity. Finally, a transfer drive of around 30 minutes returns to the port.

Important Information: Guests must be at least 7 years old to participate. The maximum age for this tour is 68, and the maximum weight is 250 lbs. In order to comfortably fit the harness, the maximum waistline to participate is 42 inches. Guests will be required to sign a waiver which may only be available in English.

Closed toe shoes are mandatory. This tour is not available for guests with pre-existing medical conditions, such as heart trouble, seizure disorders, asthma, balance problems (vertigo), back or neck problems, and mobility issues.
