MSC WORLD AMERICA TO BE LAUNCHED TONIGHT IN GLITTERING CEREMONY IN MIAMI

Miami, Florida – 9 April 2025 – MSC Cruises will name its highly-anticipated new flagship, MSC World America, tonight in a dazzling ceremony at the line’s new state-of-the-art MSC Miami Cruise Terminal, the most advanced cruise terminal in the world.

The event will culminate with MSC World America’s Godmother, Drew Barrymore, naming the ship with the cutting of a ribbon that breaks the bottle on ship’s bow in a maritime tradition that wishes it good fortune. She will be joined by Orlando Bloom – who co-stars with Drew in MSC Cruises’ “Lets Holiday” campaign that debuted during the Big Game earlier this year.

Drew Barrymore, actress and host of the Drew Barrymore Show, said: “It’s such an honor to be MSC World America’s Godmother, and I can’t wait to cut that ribbon tonight and wish the ship smooth seas and good fortune for years to come. I’ve had a lifelong passion for travel, which has always fueled my soul and left me with the most awesome memories. Millions of people will create their own memories aboard this beautiful ship as time goes by, and I know they’ll have a blast experiencing everything MSC World America has to offer.”

Featuring live entertainment, inspiring speeches and a range of onboard events highlighting everything the trail-blazing new ship has to offer, it will be an event to remember. Guests will also enjoy a glamorous gala dinner and unforgettable performances that will end with a spectacular drone and fireworks display against the Miami skyline.

The ultramodern new flagship is the second of MSC Cruises’ World Class prototype and ushers in a new world of cruising with reimagined venues, entertainment and dining concepts that seamlessly blend MSC Cruises’ signature elegant European design with North American comfort, appealing to travellers seeking global adventures.

MSC World America will also be the first ship in MSC Cruises’ fleet to feature seven on board districts, each having its own atmosphere, facilities and experiences, designed to help guests choose their own holiday experience and maximise their time on board.

After the Naming Ceremony, guests will set sail on a two-night celebratory journey to the cruise line’s stunning private island in The Bahamas – Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. While on the island, the MSC Foundation will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to inaugurate its new Marine Conservation Centre. The facility will serve as a hub for scientists and students involved in the Foundation’s Super Coral Reefs Programme, as well as a place where guests can learn more about the programme’s mission to restore coral reefs that have been impacted by climate change.

While on the island, guests will also be treated to Ocean Cay’s signature evening lighthouse show and DJ beach party, before spending an afternoon at sea, where they will be invited to experience the ship’s wide range of world-class amenities and experiences.

MSC World America will depart for her first cruise on 12 April 2025 and spend her inaugural season sailing from PortMiami, offering alternating 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries with stops in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico; Isla de Roatan, Honduras; and all sailings include a visit to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. The ship will now receive her final finishing touches at Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint Nazaire, France before being officially delivered to the cruise line on 27 March.

MSC World America will then be officially named on 9 April at the new MSC Cruise Terminal in PortMiami, the largest cruise terminal in the world.

The ship’s maiden voyage will be a celebratory sailing to the company’s private island Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve in The Bahamas ahead of the vessel’s deployment in the Caribbean Sea.

“CLIFFHANGER” – THE ONLY OVER-WATER SWING RIDE AT SEA, COMING EXCLUSIVELY TO MSC WORLD AMERICA

MSC CRUISES INTRODUCES “CLIFFHANGER” – THE ONLY OVER-WATER SWING RIDE AT SEA, COMING EXCLUSIVELY TO MSC WORLD AMERICA

  • State-of-the-art attraction will tower 50m above the ocean
  • Debuting on MSC World America, MSC Cruises’ upcoming U.S. flagship, due to enter service in April 2025

Geneva, Switzerland – 9 April 2024  MSC Cruises today unveiled Cliffhanger, the only over-water swing ride at sea, which will debut exclusively aboard MSC World America when the ship enters service in April 2025. The swing will tower above the new U.S. flagship’s top deck, nestled in the heart of the ship’s Family Aventura district and beckoning thrill seekers who want a rush of excitement.

Cliffhanger’s four seats start off close to the deck before powered arms lift them into the starting position—up and out over the edge of the ship. From there, riders are propelled back and forth, high above the waterline and dangling 50m above the ocean below. The one-of-a-kind, edge-of-your-seat thrill ride will have guests feeling the wind in their hair as their view oscillates between the water below and the sky above.

MSC World America is set to become MSC Cruises’ newest U.S. flagship when she is named at PortMiami on April 9, 2025. Guests will experience a new world of cruising as they explore seven distinct districts, each with its own atmosphere, facilities and experiences waiting to be explored. MSC World America’s districts allow guests of all ages to choose their own vacation adventure and get the most out of their time on board.

During the ship’s inaugural season, MSC World America will sail from Miami with 7-night itineraries to some of the most sought-after destinations in the Eastern and Western Caribbean, all with stops at Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve – MSC Cruises’ unique private island paradise in The Bahamas.

MSC World America is carefully designed to help reduce her impact on the environment. The ship runs on LNG, a lower-emissions fuel, and is ready for renewable energy sources. Shore power connectivity, where available, reduces emissions by allowing the ship’s engines to be switched off in port. Smart technology is used throughout the ship to ensure guests can travel in comfort while keeping energy and water use low. A robust onboard recycling program minimizes waste, and even the propellers are designed to reduce noise and avoid disturbing marine life.

Ship environmental information

At launch, MSC World America will be one of the most energy-efficient cruise ships in the world, surpassing all design requirements under the International Maritime Organization’s Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI). The ship’s latest-generation engines will reduce greenhouse gases emissions (GHG) by up to 20 percent, along with an 85 percent reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions and a nearly total elimination of sulphur oxide and particulate emissions. The ship is capable of running on Bio-LNG and Synthetic Renewable LNG, either of which would achieve greenhouse gas emissions reductions of up to 100 percent.

Wastewater is treated to a very high quality that exceeds the standards in place at many shoreside municipal wastewater treatment systems worldwide and meets the strictest international IMO standards, including the so-called Baltic standard.

The ship is fitted with advanced waste management systems to reduce, reuse, and recycle the waste generated on board.

MSC Cruises has reduced the intensity of its ship operations by 33.5 percent since 2008, and the company will achieve a 40 percent reduction ahead of the IMO 2030 target. Far beyond simply finding further operational efficiencies, MSC Cruises is embracing new technologies and identify paths for switching to non-carbon and renewable fuels, while working with fuel providers and other partners on using Bio-LNG and Synthetic Renewable LNG in the near term.
