Excursion details

See different sides to the Bahamian capital on this approximately two-and-a-half-hour excursion, which shows guests Nassau’s cultural and historical highlights, and then offers a chance to taste locally made chocolate at Graycliff Chocolatier.

Begin with a sightseeing drive of around 15 minutes to Fort Fincastle, along the way passing landmarks including bustling Bay Street and the Straw Market, a hub of stalls and shops selling arts and crafts. Once at Fort Fincastle, you’ll have approximately 30 minutes to admire this 18th-century defensive complex that offers views across Nassau and to explore the Queen’s Staircase – 66 limestone steps carved by slaves during the 1790s, initially named after Queen Victoria and today acting as a reminder of Bahamian history.

Next, continue the sightseeing drive with a journey of around 20 minutes that passes Government House (the official residence of the Governor General) and Gregory’s Arch (a chiselled, stone arch from the mid-19th century), ending at the Graycliff Hotel, which dates back to the 18th century.

Within the grounds of the hotel is Graycliff Chocolatier, a chocolate-making venue and shop that flavors its sweet creations with ingredients such as mango, puréed pineapple, tomatoes and the Bahamian goat pepper (a hot, fruity, chili pepper). Taste some of its chocolates during a visit of approximately one hour and 15 minutes, which also includes time to explore Graycliff’s other offerings, such as a winery, and the Graycliff Cigar Company.

A short drive back to the port then concludes the excursion.
