CELEBRATE WORLD MUSIC DAY WITH MSC CRUISES

CELEBRATE WORLD MUSIC DAY WITH MSC CRUISES
20/06/2014
LAUNCH OF “I CAN BELIEVE – MSC FOR UNICEF”

Geneva, 20 June – As the world marks World Music Day tomorrow (21 June), MSC Cruises and UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, acting for the protection of children’s rights, have launched a new song performed by an Italian children’s choir called “I Can Believe – MSC for UNICEF”, to provide a soundtrack to all UNICEF awareness raising efforts on board MSC Cruises ships.

World Music Day started in France in 1982 as the Fête de la Musique. Since then the idea has spread across the globe with each event sharing the same simple set of principles: that the day is held on the mid-summer solstice and that all concerts and events are free and accessible to the public. Since then the idea has spread to over 460 cities in 110 countries around the world, meaning that no matter the place, the likelihood of being able to enjoy a delightful concert is very high.

MSC Cruises decided to join the fun of World Music Day by having special live music aboard its 12 ships, but also by organising activities to be enjoyed by music pros or amateurs alike in the family. In addition to the activities, a range of cocktails and soft drinks was developed, including the “Musical Groove” cocktail.

As part of the fruitful and long-established partnership between MSC Cruises and UNICEF, which saw almost €3 million raised for children all over the world a very special song was recently released to be sung on board by all children taking part in UNICEF-related activities. Titled “I can believe – MSC for UNICEF”, the song features lyrics in the six official languages onboard the MSC fleet (English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish) and interpreted by the Antoniano di Bologna’s Piccolo Coro “Mariele Ventre” choir, under the direction of Sabrina Simoni. The lyrics were written by Angela Senatore and Antonella Boariani and the music composed by Sandro Comini.

The song, beautifully interpreted by the aforementioned children’s choir, carries an optimistic message of hope and belief in a better tomorrow. MSC Cruises and UNICEF believe that we can all, children and adults, make a difference and contribute to a better future. Children are our future, and it takes very little to have a positive influence on the life of a child. The song will be played during the MSC for UNICEF kids parade on board each MSC Cruises’ ship, as part of the awareness raising efforts of MSC Cruises targeting children aboard its fleet and called UNICEF Day.
