NATURE’S COLOURFUL RESIDENTS: A JOURNEY TO VOLUNTEER POINT

Leave the ship and begin a captivating seven-hour journey to Volunteer Point, a remarkable sanctuary where nature thrives and wildlife flourishes.

Your day begins as you hop into your 4-wheel-drive vehicle for a scenic 50-mile drive to this penguin paradise. As you navigate through the stunning landscapes, you’ll pass significant historical sites from the 1982 Falklands War, along with the quaint Port Louis, the first settlement in the Islands. Upon arrival at Volunteer Point, you’ll be greeted by the sight of a lively colony boasting over 3.000 king penguins, 7.000 gentoo penguins, and many magellanic penguins. With approximately an hour and a half to immerse yourselves in this natural wonder, you’ll marvel at the kings’ vibrant plumage – the striking orange patches on their ears and their bold grey, silver, black, white, and orange feathers make them the most colourful of all penguins.

During your visit, enjoy a delightful packed lunch savouring the flavours of your chosen baguette alongside a cookie, complemented by refreshing juice, tea, or coffee as you watch these fascinating creatures in their habitat. After observing the colonies, you’ll have time to explore the pristine beach and stroll along the pale blue lagoon, taking in the breathtaking scenery surrounding you.

As your time at Volunteer Point draws to a close, you’ll climb back into your 4×4 for the return journey. The ride back will allow you to think about the amazing wildlife encounters you have just experienced. A short break will be taken along the way, ensuring you’re comfortable for the journey. Finally, as you return to the main road network and head back to Stanley, you’ll carry memories of an unforgettable day spent among the charming king, gentoo, and magellanic penguins.
