Today at Fitur, the International Tourism Trade Fair taking place in Madrid, Spain, MSC Cruises spoke of their new year-round operation from La Romana, Dominican Republic starting November 2026.

In the presence of the Dominican Republic Minister of Tourism, David Collado, the cruise line committed its year-round operation from a brand-new homeport in La Romana, in the south of the Dominican Republic for the long-term.. This is the first time MSC Cruises has offered year-round sailings in the Southern Caribbean.

MSC Opera will operate a brand-new itinerary, operating weekly departures, and guests can opt to book a seven-night sailing or extend their cruise to a back-to-back 14-night ‘butterfly’ cruise.

One of the highlights of this new itinerary is the call to Catalina Island, close to the shores of the Dominican Republic, offering guests an exclusive nature reserve experience. Geneva, Switzerland, 21 February 2024 – MSC Cruises today announced it will base a ship in the Canary Islands for the winter 2024-25 winter season and sales are now open.

MSC Opera will operate 7-night itineraries with six ports of call between 3 November 2024 and 16 March 2025.

The ship will depart Santa Cruz de Tenerife in Tenerife for Las Palmas in Gran Canaria, Puerto del Rosario in Fuerteventura, Funchal in Madeira, Santa Cruz de la Palma in La Palma and Arrecife in Lanzarote before returning to Tenerife.

The new itinerary also offers flexible embarkation options, including Santa Cruz de Tenerife on Sundays, Las Palmas on Mondays, Madeira for Funchal on Thursdays or Fridays and Arrecife on Saturdays.

With extended stays in ports, the new itinerary gives holidaymakers up to 16 hours in port, ample time to enjoy everything that each vibrant destination has to offer.

The islands in the Canaries and the Portuguese island of Madeira will allow guests to immerse themselves in each unique destination’s rich culture, striking landscapes and captivating attractions, while taking advantage of the relaxing warm climate, perfect for sightseeing and soaking up the sun.

As the Canary Islands and Madeira are a popular warm-weather destination in the winter months, the new programme is easily accessible with regular international flights to Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Madeira and Lanzorote.

The new itinerary replaces MSC Opera’s previously planned Red Sea winter 2024-25 programme, which is cancelled in light of the current risk to shipping in this region.

MSC Cruises will launch two new and innovative ships for the upcoming winter season, with the first being the much-anticipated MSC World Europa.   • MSC Sinfonia: starting December 2022, will homeport in Cape Town (South Africa) sailing the west coast to Mossel Bay (South Africa), Walvis Bay and Luderitz (Namibia).
  • MSC Orchestra: will based in Durban (South Africa) and will then perform calls including Pomene and Portuguese Island/Inhaca Archipelago (Mozambique), Walvis Bay (Namibia) and Cape Town (South Africa).

MSC World Cruise for winter 2022-2023 include:

MSC Magnifica and MSC Poesia will both perform the MSC World Cruise 2023. The two ships in an industry first will host over 5,000 guests for a round journey around the world and they will both depart from Civitavecchia and Genoa (Italy), respectively on 4 and 5 January, Marseille (France) one day later and Barcelona (Spain) on 7 January. The Msc Opera

The MSC Opera, a Lirica-class vessel, entered service in 2004 and underwent a major renaissance program in the summer of 2015. At 274.9 meters in length, it can accommodate 2150 passengers (with double occupancy). The public areas are colorful and tastefully decorated. The cabins are more classic with colorful accents. Since the last modernization, the ship has 197 new cabins, additional spacious public areas and new, flexible restaurant offerings. The ship was also equipped with a modern water park and new children’s areas.

Staterooms
The cabins are comfortably furnished and have a bathroom with shower and toilet, a minibar, TV, telephone and safe. The inside and outside cabins offer about 13 square meters, the balcony cabins already 15 square meters of space. The suites measure 27 square meters and are equipped with a bathtub instead of a shower.

Atmosphere Onboard
On board the MSC Opera, it’s like landing in a modern and well-kept holiday hotel: Good food, a wide range of sports, comfortable cabins and many entertainment options. Even ig the atmosphere on board is relaxed and casual, festive wear is recommended on two evenings a week. Alternatively, you can also visit the buffet restaurant on these evenings where no formal clothings are recommended.

Food and Beverages
MSC Cruises is an Italian cruise line, which also influences the cuisine on board. In the main restaurants two meal times are usual. Overall, the kitchen is good and tasty. The MSC Opera has two great restaurants, La Caravella and L’Approdo as well as an open-air restaurant, the Il Patio. For a quick lunch, the cafeteria La Vele is recommended. Since the refurbishment the buffet is open 20 hours a day.

Sports, Wellness and Entertainment
On board there are many ways to spend your days. Guests seeking for active challenges or relaxation are in good hands in the large fitness and spa area with whirlpools, steam bath and much more. During the last modernization, the ship was equipped with an interactive water park for children and other children’s areas were modernized in cooperation with the brands Chicco and LEGO. So even the little ones will have an unforgettable time on board. For those who like to dance and celebrate there is a disco on board where they can dance the night away.

The European-Italian atmosphere makes the MSC Opera a lively and cheerful ship. But there are also quiet corners and places to relax on board. Also cruise newcomers feel very well on this ship. The price-performance ratio is good.
