MAYAN REALITY & BEACH BREAK
Gain insights into Maya culture during this approximately six-hour excursion, which also includes time for relaxation at the beach. Other activities during this time include exploring ancient ruins in a Maya village and a tequila tasting.
Begin this adventure – lasting approximately six hours – by departing from the port on a transfer of around 45 minutes. Your destination is a local tequila hacienda, where you’ll learn, over approximately 45 minutes, how Mexico’s national spirit is made from the agave plant and distilled, before tasting some tequila for yourself. In fact, tequila can only be made from agave tequilana, known as the blue Weber agave.
Afterwards, spend approximately 30 minutes exploring one of the small ruins in the town of Limones, and start to understand more about the achievements and influence of the Maya – at its peak, Maya civilisation numbered around 40 cities, some housing up to 120,000 people.
This is followed by a journey of around 15 minutes to Casita Maya, also known as Casa Maya. Here, over approximately one hour, your guide will tell you about different foods, cultural customs and medicinal practices used by communities in the area before you meet with a local family, who will prepare you a fresh, traditional lunch.
The final stop is Mahahual, reached after journey of around 60 minutes from Casita Maya. Once arrived at Mahahual, you’ll have approximately 90 minutes of free time to make the most of the beach. Sunbathe on the sand, swim in the Caribbean Sea and enjoy the coastal setting however you like, before a transfer of around 15 minutes returns to the port.
Important Information: Please note: This tour involves walking over relatively level terrain, possible some cobblestone, gravel, or few steps. Comfortable shoes are recommended. Pregnant women and guests with heart or respiratory conditions or back/neck injuries are not allowed to participate. Presence of seaweed in the Mexican Caribbean Coast is seasonal and could cause limited visibility and be present in the water or beach. Seaweed is not harmful but may cause light itching on sensitive skin
