Doha, Qatar and Geneva, Switzerland, 07 September 2022 – The Cruise Division of MSC Group in partnership with Qatar Airways today announced that the naming ceremony for MSC Cruises’ trailblazing new flagship, MSC World Europa, will take place on 13 November in Doha, the capital of Qatar, where she will officially inaugurate the city’s brand new Grand Cruise Terminal. This latest announcement is part of MSC’s overall commitment to Qatar and the continued importance of the Middle East, where MSC Cruises is brand leader, and also supports Qatar’s Vision 2030 pledge to triple the number of international tourists visiting the country by that year.

Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman, Cruise Division of MSC Group, said, “We are incredibly proud that in November we will name our most innovative, futuristic and the world’s largest environmentally-focused cruise passenger ship in Doha. MSC World Europa represents the future of cruising, a totally new platform that will provide our guests with an unforgettable cruise not experienced anywhere before, so it is fitting that this monumental event will take place in one of the seven new Urban Wonders of the World and inaugurate the city’s magnificent new Grand Cruise Terminal.”

The ship will become the biggest and most environmentally high-performing passenger ship to sail out of Doha and across the Middle East and welcome guests from around the world for the winter 2022/2023 season.”

The ship naming ceremony is set to be a glamourous and star-studded event and celebrated with an outstanding array of stunning live entertainment and performances as well as the traditional maritime bottle breaking moment to name a new ship against the backdrop of a firework-lit stunning cityscape skyline of Doha. Further details of the special event will be revealed in due course.

In addition, the opening of the new Grand Cruise Terminal is a state-of-the-art facility that firmly puts Qatar on the map for cruise ships and positions Doha as one of the most modern ports in the world.”

The special occasion will take place at Doha’s brand new Grand Cruise Terminal, a state-of-the-art 24,000 square metres facility that will handle up to 28,000 passengers a day and has the capacity to host two mega-cruise ships a day. Cruise passengers are set to enjoy an incredible aquarium in the terminal and a gallery that specialises in Islamic art, among its many features.

The ship will make for her maiden voyage on December 20, offering 7-night cruises to Doha, Qatar, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sir Bani Yas Island, United Arab Emirates, plus Dammam, Saudi Arabia. For the upcoming winter season MSC Opera will also offer 7-night itineraries in the Gulf region to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sir Bani Yas island plus two destinations in Oman – Muscat and Khasab.

MSC World Europa from March 2023 will then move to the Mediterranean Sea where she will offer 7-night cruises to the Italian ports of Genoa, Naples and Messina, as well as Valletta in Malta, Barcelona in Spain and Marseille in France.

Spanning 22 decks, with 215,863 GT’s, 47 metres wide, 40,000 m2 of public space and 2,626 cabins, MSC World Europa is the eagerly anticipated new flagship that will join the MSC Cruises’ fleet.

This ultramodern urban metropolis at sea has been designed to offer a veritable choice of different experiences for holiday makers.

MSC World Europa will be the first liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered vessel in MSC Cruises’ fleet and the most environmentally advanced to date.

The fuel she will run on, LNG, is one of the world’s cleanest marine fuels available at scale and is set to play a key role in the decarbonisation of international shipping.

It virtually eliminates local air pollutant emissions like sulphur oxides and reduces nitrogen oxides by up to 85 per cent.

LNG also plays a key role in climate change mitigation as it reduces CO2 emissions by 25 per cent and is paving the way for the uptake of sustainable non-fossil fuels including green hydrogen. A demonstration fuel cell onboard will test the efficiency of this technology as a means to produce heat and electricity about 30 per cent more efficiently.

MSC World Europa will also feature selective catalytic reduction systems, shore power plug-in connectivity to reduce carbon emissions in port, advanced wastewater treatment systems designed in line with the United Nations’ shipping body the International Maritime Organization, food and waste recycling, underwater radiated noise management system to help protect marine life and a comprehensive range of onboard energy efficient equipment to optimise engine use and further reduce emissions.

The Swiss-based line has a long-term goal to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions for its operations by 2050. This will be achieved by investing and supporting the accelerated development and implementation of innovative, cutting-edge technologies to be deployed across the Company’s fleet of ships.

When she debuts this December, MSC Seascape will feature new and innovative experiences for thrill-seeking guests of all ages. The highlight will be ROBOTRON – a thrilling amusement ride that offers the breath-taking thrill of a rollercoaster at sea combined with a personalised DJ music experience. The ship will also feature two brand-new VR experiences and a whole host of other exhilarating high-tech entertainment designed to be enjoyed by thrill-seekers of all ages.

MSC Cruises is a leader in designing new and innovative experiences and the bar has been raised on MSC Seascape. ROBOTRON is a state-of-the-art robotic arm with an attached gondola that seats three guests – flying them 53 metres above the sea. Riders will have an unobstructed 360° view of the horizon as they hang over the edge of the deck, twist and turn upside down in different directions, and flip upside down.

ROBOTRON will offer a personalised DJ experience where guests are invited to curate their musical journey with colours, music preferences and more. Original theming sets the stage for a pulse-pounding DJ experience. Seated on the mixer, guests will find themselves behind the DJ booth, with the rhythm and bass visualised as colourful patterns, pulses of light and people dancing on a giant video screen all while the robotic arm is bouncing and twisting in tempo. Riders can also select their thrill level, making ROBOTRON both a family-friendly and high-thrill experience

MSC Seascape will be launched in New York at a glittering Naming Ceremony on 7 December this year and will then move to PortMiami offering incredible cruises in the Caribbean year-round, with two different itineraries:

Geneva, Switzerland – 09 June 2022 – MSC Cruises today announced that MSC Bellissima will be positioned in the Mediterranean this summer to meet overwhelming demand from consumers for its cruise holidays.

This eagerly anticipated new flagship is the first from the trail-blazing World Class prototype, spanning 22 decks, 47 metres wide, with 2,626 cabins and boasting more than 40,000mof public space. This ultramodern urban metropolis at sea is the future of cruising and will offer a veritable world of different experiences pushing the boundaries of what is possible at sea – setting a new standard for the cruise industry.

With so many brand-new features and whole world of experiences to discover, here are 9 reasons why MSC World Europa will be the ultimate ship to launch in 2022.

1.) The Promenade – the beating heart of the ship

The 104-metre long, 7 deck-high outdoor World Promenade is one of the most impressive spaces in this incredible ship. 8.) The ultimate itineraries

MSC World Europa will spend her inaugural season in the Gulf giving guests the ultimate winter cruise experience. Her season will commence on 20 December with a special 4-night sailing from Doha in Qatar to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

MSC World Europa will then offer 7-night cruises from Dubai to the nearby modern metropolis of Abu Dhabi, on to Sir Bani Yas Island, where guests will have a chance to discover an exotic array of wildlife or bask in the warm sun on the immaculate beaches, all exclusive to MSC Cruises on the days which the ships call. Her programme in the Gulf has been enriched with calls in the port of Dammam, Saudi Arabia, visiting Al Ahsa oasis, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Departing Dubai on 25 March 2023, MSC World Europa will head to the Mediterranean Sea. In summer 2023, she will offer 7-night cruises calling the Italian ports of Genoa, Naples and Messina, as well as Valletta in Malta, Barcelona in Spain and Marseille in France.

9.) MSC World Europa to become one of the most environmentally advanced ships at sea

MSC World Europa will be the first LNG-powered vessel in MSC Cruises’ fleet and the most environmentally advanced to date. The fuel she runs on, liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), is one of the world’s cleanest marine fuels available at scale and is set to play a key role in the decarbonisation of (or transition to zero emissions of) international shipping. It virtually eliminates local air pollutant emissions like sulphur oxides and reduces nitrogen oxides by up to 85%. LNG also plays a key role in climate change mitigation as it reduces CO2 emissions by 25% and is paving the way for the uptake of sustainable non-fossil fuels including green hydrogen. A demonstration fuel cell onboard will test the efficiency of this technology as a means to produce heat and electricity about 30% more efficiently than the LNG engines.

In addition, MSC World Europa will feature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems, shore-to-ship power connectivity, advanced wastewater treatment systems to comply with the so-called Baltic standard, the strictest global standard for wastewater disposal to sea, an underwater radiated noise management system to reduce potential noise and vibration impact on marine mammals, as well as a wide range of energy efficient equipment and systems to optimise engine use.

Today the cruise line announced plans to hold the ship’s Naming Ceremony at New York’s centrally located Manhattan Cruise Terminal on Wednesday, 7 December 2022. The star-studded event will bring MSC Cruises’ distinctive European style and glamour to the Big Apple and be attended by local dignitaries, important partners, top travel advisors, media from around the world, celebrities and international artists. And of course, no Naming Ceremony would be complete without Academy Award-Winning star Sophia Loren carrying out her iconic role as godmother to her 18 MSC Cruises ship.

MSC Seascape’s environmental technologies will include selective catalytic reduction systems on each of her four Wärtsilä 14V 46F engines, reducing nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 90 percent and converting the gas into harmless nitrogen and water. Separate hybrid exhaust gas cleaning systems will remove 98 percent of sulphur oxide from ship emissions.

The vessel is fitted with best-in-class wastewater treatment systems with purification standards that are higher than most wastewater treatment facilities on land. It will feature advanced waste management systems, ballast water treatment systems approved by the United States Coast Guard, the latest-technology systems for the prevention of oil discharges from machinery spaces, and various effective energy-efficiency improvements – from heat recovery systems to LED lighting able to save energy.

The ship will also feature an underwater radiated noise management system to reduce and isolate the potential effects on marine mammals.

Around the world voyages from MSC Cruises have consistently sold out since the line introduced its first World Cruise in 2019, and the latest round-the-world itinerary follows a stunning new route that includes 52 amazing destinations in 31 different countries.

Embarking the ship for a spectacular 121-day voyage in the ports of Civitavecchia/Rome, Genoa, Marseille or Barcelona (on 4, 5, 6 or 7 January 2024 respectively), guests head off for their first destinations, then for almost four months, will be led on an itinerary of unforgettable experience around the world.

The cruises starts off with some of the main highlights in the Mediterranean Sea including stops to France, Spain, Italy, Malta, Cyprus, an overnight in Haifa, Israel and day visit to Cairo via Port Said/Alexandria, Egypt. Guests will then transition through the world-famous Suez Canal to the stunning Red Sea where sights of the ancient world await in Luxor and Petra.

Geneva, Switzerland – 31 March 2022 – MSC Cruises has opened sales for MSC Euribia, the line’s most environmentally advanced ship in its fleet and its second LNG-powered ship currently under construction at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in France, due to launch in early June 2023. The ship will spend her inaugural season in Northern Europe from the German port of Kiel, offering guests a rich panoply of incredible destinations to discover.

MSC Euribia will offer an incredible seven-night itineraries sailing to the Norwegian Fjords with weekly departures from Kiel, Germany with calls including Copenhagen, Denmark; Hellesylt, Norway for the Geirangerfjord; as well as Alesund and Flaam, also in Norway, among others.

Hull Design Winner Revealed

MSC Euribia will strike a markedly different silhouette than her sister ships in the Meraviglia-Plus class, thanks to an exclusive artwork designed as a commitment by MSC Cruises to the sea. The line held an exclusive international design competition through Talent House to create a unique artwork for the ship’s hull, inspired by the sea and its important marine ecosystem. The design will be featured permanently on the ship’s hull, highlighting the steps that the Company is taking towards a greener future.

Designs from 59 countries worldwide were submitted and the winner, German artist Alex Flaemig was revealed today. Flaemig will have the honour of his artwork gracing the ship’s exterior, shining a light on the Company’s ongoing commitment to the environment and the pledge to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by 2050.

The five finalists will have their designs displayed on board the ship in a new gallery.

Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of the Cruise Division of MSC Group said, “In response to the growing need to protect the ocean for future generations, we have made it our mission to equip our ships with the latest and most advanced environmental technologies and solutions, with MSC Euribia showcasing the best of them to-date. Mr. Flaemig’s design perfectly captured this message of passion and dedication to preserving the marine environment and its complex ecosystem and delivers a strong call to action to everyone who sees this ship to save the seas.”

The winner Alex Flaemig commented, “In order to make people even more aware of this unique underwater world with its precious life, I have graphically placed a small section of this ecosystem on the hull of the MSC Euribia. What was important to me was not only the representation of the underwater world, but also a message about how it should be preserved.”

Flaemig, a native of Dresden, Germany was inspired by the opportunity to transform the hull of MSC Euribia into a giant, floating canvas to highlight the importance of respect for the environment. His design #SaveTheSea, the design features the unique underwater world with its precious life and weaves together the colours of the MSC Cruises and MSC Foundation logos, creating a gradient effect that paints sea fauna and flora across the hull.

Flaemig goes on to explain, “I also want to express that an intact sea is also the basis for a healthy ecosystem on land. I want to emphasize this with the representation of birds, insects and leaves and last but not least with the globe. It is still important to me to inspire people and encourage them to participate.”

The winning artwork was selected from scores of others from around the world by a panel of international judges including sand artist Jben, known for his large-scale ephemeral sand frescoes that wash away with the tide, architect Martin Francis and Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of the Cruise Division of MSC Group.

The environmentally advanced MSC Euribia

MSC Euribia will come into service in 2023 and become the second LNG-powered ship in MSC Cruises’ fleet, marking another step forward in substantially reducing greenhouse gas emissions. LNG plays a key role in the journey towards climate change mitigation and will reduce CO emissions by up to 25% on MSC Euribia compared to standard fuels while also virtually eliminating other air emissions.

As bio and synthetic fuels become available, MSC Euribia’s emissions will be further reduced. LNG is key to the development of low carbon solutions for shipping as emerging technologies such as fuel cells can be operated with LNG until zero emissions bio-LNG or green hydrogen become available at scale. MSC Cruises is actively involved in several projects to develop and make these technologies viable in partnership with regulators, academia, shipyards and industry. This includes a project to study the use of hydrogen fuel in cruise ships in partnership with Fincantieri and SNAM, as well as a pilot project for the development of solid oxide fuel cell technology for cruise ships with Chantiers de l’Atlantique and Bloom Energy.

MSC Euribia will utilise an advanced wastewater treatment system, as well as an underwater radiated noise management system to minimise the effects of vibrations on marine life. Multiple energy efficiency features help reduce and optimise engine use.

MSC Cruises is committed to powering at least three upcoming ships with LNG, representing a total investment exceeding EUR 3 billion.

Geneva, Switzerland, 16 March 2022 – MSC Cruises’ today announced that MSC Grandiosa will now be fully dedicated to the Norwegian Fjords for the entire summer 2022 season. This sees one of MSC Cruises’ most modern and environmentally advanced ships offering stand-out seven-night itineraries in one of the most stunning regions in Northern Europe. As a result, MSC Cruises will offer an unparalleled choice of itineraries to guests wanting to discover this unique part of the world this summer, as MSC Preziosa and MSC Poesia also offer additional seven-night options next to MSC Grandiosa across the Norwegian Fjords region.

MSC Grandiosa will perform spectacular seven-night itineraries from Kiel, Germany calling at the colourful capital city of Denmark, Copenhagen. The ship then heads north to Norway, calling at the breath-taking village of Hellesylt while experiencing the splendour of Sunnylvsfjord, sail through Aurlandsfjord on the way to the panoramic port town of Alesund and stunning Flam village.

MSC Cruises had previously confirmed that the Line would suspend calls to St Petersburg, Russia and as such, MSC Grandiosa will now be fully dedicated to the Fjords region while MSC Poesia and MSC Preziosa will still call in the Baltics but with St Petersburg replaced with other popular destinations in the region like Stockholm, Tallinn and Visby. MSC Cruises is contacting with travel agents and guests affected by the updated itineraries for all three ships.

Guests originally booked on one of MSC Grandiosa’s former itinerary in the Baltics and still wishing to experience a cruise there can opt for departures with one of MSC Poesia’s or MSC Preziosa’s Summer 2022 itineraries:

Geneva, Switzerland, 9 March 2022 – MSC Cruises today announced that for the first time it will base one of its ships in New York and operate year-round sailings. The modern and glamorous MSC Meraviglia will homeport in the Big Apple from April 2023 for year-round cruises to the Caribbean, Bermuda, New England and Canada. Many of the cruises from New York will visit Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve – the line’s stunning private island destination in The Bahamas.

The deployment is set to enhance MSC Cruises’ presence in the North American market by complementing the rich choice of ships and itineraries sailing from both Miami and Port Canaveral/Orlando in Florida and will give guests the opportunity to extend their holiday with a stay in New York either before or after their cruise.

Caribbean itineraries of either 7 or 8 nights, featuring calls in Nassau, The Bahamas and Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve—MSC Cruises’ beautiful private island also in The Bahamas.
Bermuda itineraries lasting 6 nights and offering three days docked at King’s Wharf combined with several relaxing days at sea.
Northern itineraries of either 10 or 11 nights, featuring calls at Boston, Massachusetts; Portland, Maine; Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; Halifax and Sydney, Nova Scotia; and Saint John, New Brunswick. 11-night itineraries include an additional call in Newport, Rhode Island.

MSC Cruises’ decision to deploy a ship year-round in New York is the latest example of the brand’s long-standing focus on the overall North American cruise market, which includes attracting more international holidaymakers and continuing to place some of its most advanced ships at U.S. ports.

Port Canaveral in Florida was added last year as a permanent homeport with a mix of 3, 4 and 7-night cruises aimed at maximizing options for international guests to enjoy the world-renowned mix of attractions in the Orlando area. Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve

MSC Cruises’ stunning private island destination in The Bahamas is the centrepiece of a breathtaking near 17,000 hectare marine reserve designed to connect guests with nature, making it the perfect spot to take a deep breath and relax. The island will be a highlight of many of MSC Meraviglia’s itineraries and offers white sandy beaches where chairs, umbrellas and cabanas await guests for a relaxing day of soaking up the spirit of The Bahamas while surrounded by sweeping panoramas of crystal blue waters at every turn.

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve is home to the MSC Foundation’s Super Coral Programme, which aims to develop and refine methods to reverse the decline in coral reefs. The Foundation is working with scientists from the University of Miami Rosenstiel School and Nova Southeastern University to pioneer methods for rebuilding damaged reefs with coral species that are more resilient to environmental threats like ocean pollution and warming.
