KOHUNLICH MAYAN RUINS
Take an approximately seven-hour archaeological outing to the Maya city of Kohunlich, learning all about its history from a guide as you explore. Visit the famous Temple of Masks and enjoy a packed lunch on the return journey afterwards.

This excursion to Kohunlich, lasting around seven-hours, is a chance to visit an ancient, terraced city built by the Maya between approximately 250 and 600 AD.
The journey begins with a transfer of approximately two hours and 15 minutes, during which your guide will inform you about the history of both the Maya civilisation and Kohunlich.
Once arrived, embark on an approximately two-hour guided tour of this impressive archaeological site. Highlights include a sunken palace, an acropolis, courtyards and even a ceremonial ball field. Kohunlich is best known for its Temple of Masks, dedicated to the Maya sun god Kinich Ahau. The well-preserved pyramid has a central stairway lined by large stucco masks, parts of which still retain their original colour, despite dating back to before 500 AD.
Also look out for the structure unofficially known as the Temple of the 27 Steps, which provides fantastic views across parts of the site from its top.At the end of the tour, board the bus for your return journey of around two hours and 15 minutes, during which you will be given a light packed lunch.
Important Information:Please note: The tour involves an approximately 2.5 hour coach drive each way without a comfort stop; guests are therefore recommended to use the facilities prior to departure. As the tour involves longer periods of walking on uneven ground, guests are requested to take extra care. The tour is not available for pregnant women, guests with mobility problems, neck or back surgeries or guests using a wheelchair.
Guests are recommended to wear high-factor sunscreen, insect repellent and comfortable shoes. Depending on the exchange rate on the day of the tour, a fee of US$8-US$10 will be payable by guests wishing to use video equipment (including mobile phones) at the archaeological site. The site does not permit the use of tripods, professional video equipment or flash photography. For safety reasons, backpacks and large handbags are not permitted in the ruins site. The tour also involves an approx. 5-minute walk between the car park and the entrance of Kohunlich. To avoid damaging the fragile ruins, climbing them is prohibited. Guests will walk approximately 1.6 km at the ruins. The maximum age to participate is 80 years old
