FLAVOURS OF JAMAICA
Learn to make traditional Jamaican dishes, including a jerk sauce and Jamaican festival dumplings, at a cookery class during this excursion, which lasts approximately six and a half hours. It takes place on the grounds of a historic estate, which you’ll get to see via a ‘jitney’carriage, towed by a tractor.
Get acquainted with Jamaican flavours on this excursion, lasting around six and a half hours. Depart from the port on a transfer of around 80 minutes to the Yaaman Adventure Park, a hub of activities and experiences set on the grounds of the historic Prospect Estate. Once arrived, you’ll ride through part of the grounds by jitney – an open-sided carriage drawn by tractor, providing great views of the rural scenery.
After a ride of around 25 minutes, you’ll arrive at the Great House, which dates back to the 18th century and was first constructed as a fort before being turned into a home. The house was also visited by Winston Churchill in the 1950s, and he planted a mahogany tree near the entrance that still stands to this day.
Admire the grounds and gardens of the house as you enter and then move to the veranda for your cooking class, lasting approximately two hours. A chef will teach you how to prepare various classic Jamaican and Caribbean dishes. These include a special variety of jerk sauce, callaloo (a leafy green commonly cooked with herbs and spices, including Scotch bonnet peppers) and Jamaican festivals (crispy, slightly sweet, fried dumplings).
Enjoy your newly made creations afterwards, before a drive of around 15 minutes back to the information centre at Yaaman Adventure Park, where you’ll have approximately 45 minutes of free time before the return transfer to the port, which takes around one hour and 25 minutes.
