PARTNERS WITH MARINE CONSERVATION ORGANISATION ORCA DURING INAUGURAL ALASKA SEASON

A landmark partnership with marine conservation organisation ORCA, deploying the first dedicated ORCA-trained Marine Mammal Observer (MMO) aboard a ship during the cruise line’s inaugural Alaska season in summer 2026. This science-driven initiative reinforces MSC Cruises’ commitment to turning environmental responsibility into action as it expands operations while moving industry-wide standards forward.

As part of the partnership, an ORCA MMO will sail on board MSC Poesia for one month during the peak whale season from late July through late August 2026, one of the most whale-populous periods in Alaskan waters. This extended observation period enables statistically significant data collection on whale behavioral responses to vessel presence and activity.

The ORCA MMO will also be using this time to study whale behavior and collect data, notably their reaction to the presence of cruise vessels.

This information will be shared with the scientific community as well as used to inform the whale avoidance training that ORCA provides to deck crew of numerous cruise lines and shipping companies, including MSC Cruises.

Drawing on ORCA’s expertise in ethical and responsible whale watching, the organisation will offer support and guidance on Alaska destination experiences, including the review of current whale watching excursions. ORCA will help identify best-practice operators and work collaboratively throughout the season to conduct ongoing assessments, gathering near real-time quantitative feedback to support high standards of sustainable wildlife tourism.

Guest education is another core pillar of the collaboration. During each Alaska itinerary, ORCA’s MMO will host an on board educational session for guests, highlighting the research taking place and the potential positive impact of the partnership. Guests will also be introduced to ORCA’s citizen science initiatives, offering an opportunity to engage more deeply with Alaska’s marine environment.

MSC Cruises announced today upgrades to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, the cruise line’s private island in The Bahamas. The island will receive new facilities to enhance the guest experience and an extended pier to allow two ships to call simultaneously – due for completion in late 2027.

Ocean Cay opened in late 2019 and quickly became a must-visit, guest-favourite destination on MSC Cruises’ Caribbean itineraries. Reflecting the company’s longstanding commitment to marine conservation, the cruise line transformed the former industrial site into a beautiful unique private island destination with crystal blue waters and pristine white sand beaches.

With over two miles of pristine beachfront spread across eight world-class beaches, Ocean Cay is designed with comfort in mind., The island features a wide range of facilities and experiences including dedicated areas to relax or swim, seven bars, Seakers Food Court for casual dining and food trucks along with a range of fun-filled water activities, all thoughtfully spread across the island. The island also offers a large range of Shore Excursions, with something for everyone, from snorkeling and watersports, to climbing the iconic lighthouse and seeing local wildlife.

Guests visiting the island from late 2027 can now expect a range of new facilities and experiences including new restaurants and bars, a dedicated adults-only beach, fully-equipped family lagoon and more cabanas available to rent.

Ocean Cay’s new experiences will include:

  • NEW! Dining venues – Four new dining experiences will be added to the island, meaning guests will be able to choose from a total of seven venues. A signature specialty restaurant will be added alongside new buffets and food market options.
  • NEW! Seakers Cove Family Beach – Seakers Cove will receive an upgrade with an exciting range of new experiences including a kid’s playground, a splashpad, and ropes course with water elements. The area will also feature ping-pong and foosball for the whole family to enjoy. This dedicated family beach will also offer different activations including activities, fun-filled tournaments and interactive games – creating the ultimate multi-generational experience.
  • NEW! Paradise Sands – An exclusive retreat for adults will be added. The new beach experience will allow adults to relax and soak up the sun in tranquillity by day before the space transforms into the perfect place to sip a cocktail at sunset.
  • NEW! More Cabanas – The island will introduce a greater variety of cabanas on the island, providing guests even more choice and luxury relaxation.
  • NEW! Marine Conservation Experience – The new MSC Foundation “Shifting Perspective” Experience will invite guests to explore marine conservation through immersive, hands-on experiences, from coral restoration and scientific discovery to interactive exploration of ocean ecosystems.

Construction work has also begun on extending the pier to accommodate two ships. Vessels dock directly at Ocean Cay, meaning guests can walk ashore with ease. Due for completion in late 2027, the pier extension will allow for two ships to dock simultaneously.

Work also continues on the development of a second private island destination adjacent to Ocean Cay. This as-yet-unnamed island, known internally as Little Cay, will stay true to the ethos of Ocean Cay, offering an experience that connects guests to nature, pristine beaches, and the beauty of the ocean plus luxury facilities and water features.

Today at Fitur, the International Tourism Trade Fair taking place in Madrid, Spain, MSC Cruises spoke of their new year-round operation from La Romana, Dominican Republic starting November 2026.

In the presence of the Dominican Republic Minister of Tourism, David Collado, the cruise line committed its year-round operation from a brand-new homeport in La Romana, in the south of the Dominican Republic for the long-term.. This is the first time MSC Cruises has offered year-round sailings in the Southern Caribbean.

MSC Opera will operate a brand-new itinerary, operating weekly departures, and guests can opt to book a seven-night sailing or extend their cruise to a back-to-back 14-night ‘butterfly’ cruise.

One of the highlights of this new itinerary is the call to Catalina Island, close to the shores of the Dominican Republic, offering guests an exclusive nature reserve experience. MSC Cruises is bringing Dirty Dancing: In Concert – the live-to-film concert created by Lionsgate and GEA Live – to MSC Poesia for her highly anticipated summer season in Alaska, starting 11 May 2026.

Building on MSC Cruises existing collaboration with Lionsgate, MSC Poesia will become the third ship in the cruise line’s fleet to feature the hit live-to-film concert, following its highly successful reception aboard MSC World America sailing from Miami in the U.S. and on MSC Virtuosa for her summer sailings from Southampton in the UK. The concert is also set to continue on MSC Virtuosa for her upcoming winter season in the Southern Caribbean.

The spectacular 90-minute live-to-film concert will bring Lionsgate’s beloved 80s film, Dirty Dancing, to life, featuring a talented live band alongside sensational singers and dancers, performing in sync with the beloved movie.

Guests travelling aboard MSC Poesia will have the chance to catch the live-to-film concert throughout their cruise, including matinee showings on sea days – all while travelling to captivating destinations in Alaska and Canada from the ship’s homeport in Seattle, U.S.

MSC MAGNIFICA LEAVES SHIPYARD IN MALTA FOR MEDITERRANEAN SAILINGS

 MSC Cruises has completed a major refurbishment of MSC Magnifica at the Palumbo Malta Shipyard, marking the start of her winter sailings in the Mediterranean ahead of the 2026 MSC World Cruise.

Guests can now enjoy a range of brand-new, state-of-the-art facilities, including two new speciality dining venues — Butcher’s Cut and Kaito Sushi Bar — along with a redesigned MSC Aurea Spa and Technogym® Fitness Centre featuring a Gentleman’s Barber, new workout studios, and an expanded outdoor Aurea area.

The ship, which has been in service since 2010, has spent the past two months at dry dock at Palumbo Malta Shipyard in Malta undergoing one of the largest upgrades in MSC Cruises’ fleet in the past decade.

Guests will get to experience the new venues from now, and the full MSC Yacht Club experience complete with 24-hour butler and concierge service, will be available in Summer 2026 when MSC Magnifica sails her Northern Europe itineraries departing from Warnemunde, Germany.

Sister ship MSC Poesia will enter dry dock at the same shipyard in February 2026 for similar upgrades, including the MSC Yacht Club with 69 suites, an All-Stars Sports Bar, and the same speciality restaurants, spa, and gym enhancements. She will rejoin the fleet in time for her Alaska debut in May 2026.

Setting the stage for an incredible summer, MSC Cruises’ new itineraries aboard MSC Lirica and MSC Divina will offer guests the chance to explore some of the most captivating destinations in the Eastern Mediterranean – and it’s not too late to book.

Both ships will offer seven-night sailings, designed to showcase the iconic region’s beauty with itineraries that span the breathtaking Greek Isles to historic cities in Turkey, Montenegro’s Adriatic gems, and Italy’s highly sought-after destinations – offering travellers the perfect mix of city exploration, relaxing beaches, rich culture, delicious cuisine and world-famous historical sites.  

The itineraries include calls at exciting new and up-coming destinations Marmaris, Turkey renowned for its stunning coastline and historic harbour, and Syros, Greece, celebrated for its charming blend of neoclassical architecture and vibrant local culture.

MSC CRUISES AND MEYER WERFT SIGN LANDMARK AGREEMENT FOR SIX NEXT-GENERATION CRUISE VESSELS

Berlin, Germany, 15 December – Today, MSC Cruises announced a major new order for four next-generation cruise vessels and two additional options from MEYER WERFT in Papenburg marking the launch of its new “New Frontier” platform – a brand-new class of ships. The order will secure full capacity at the shipyard well into the next decade.

The announcement was made today at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in Berlin by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Katherina Reiche and Energy Minister-President Lower Saxony, Olaf Lies, MSC Cruises’ Executive Chairman Pierfrancesco Vago and MEYER WERFT’s CEO Dr. Bernd Eikens.

Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Cruises, said: “MEYER WERFT’s track record, expertise and proud history make it a true beacon of European shipbuilding. Together, we will create vessels that redefine the cruise experience while preserving the craftsmanship that keeps Germany at the forefront of maritime engineering. The New Frontier class will enable us to design new and exclusive itineraries, offer exceptional guest experience and will feature next-generation environmental technologies that will advance our net-zero 2050 commitment.”

With a maximum passenger capacity of 5,400 and approximately 180,000 gross tons, the “New Frontier” ships will be delivered annually starting in 2030.

This order represents a decisive boost for the regional economy. It secures thousands of jobs in Germany, particularly in Lower Saxony and Papenburg, where MEYER WERFT is a cornerstone employer and sustains work for the shipyard’s extensive supplier network. More than 3,200 people are directly employed at MEYER WERFT, with over 20,000 jobs in the wider region linked to its operations.

With delivery schedules stretching into the 2030’s, the agreement reinforces Papenburg’s role as a strategic hub for global cruise shipbuilding and ensures continuity for one of Europe’s most advanced maritime manufacturing ecosystems.
