TULUM MAYAN RUINS
Visit an ancient Maya city built on the Caribbean Sea during this approximately eight-hour excursion to Tulum. You’ll get the chance to explore ancient ruins and visit a distinctive lighthouse-temple. A light packed lunch is included.
The Maya city of Tulum is one of Mexico’s most-visited archaeological zones, thanks to its well-preserved structures and unique clifftop location overlooking the Caribbean Sea. This excursion of around eight hours lets you explore the centuries-old ruins and learn their history from a guide. You’ll also receive a light packed lunch to enjoy during the day.
Board a ferry at the port in Cozumel for an approximately 45-minute journey to Playa del Carmen, a popular coastal city in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. Then walk for 15 minutes or so to your bus transfer to Tulum, which lasts about an hour.
Once arrived, your guided tour begins. Over the course of approximately two hours, discover this ancient civilisation’s history and traditions through restored temples, famous frescoes and centuries-old hieroglyphics. A highlight will be visiting El Castillo, a temple-cum-lighthouse that rises above the rest of the park.
A bus transfer of around an hour then returns to Playa del Carmen. Following an approximately 15-minute walk to the pier, embark on your ferry ride back to Cozumel, lasting around 45 minutes.
Important Information: Please note: Transfer by ferry to Playa del Carmen lasts approximately 45 minutes and could possibly be rough depending on the sea conditions. Once in mainland, it is an approximately 1 hour transfer by bus to/from Tulum, for a total travel time from the ship to and from Tulum of approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes each way. Traffic conditions may affect the driving time to and from Tulum. Estimated time spent at Tulum: 2 hours. There is a government tax of US$5 on the use of video cameras in the ruins. No tripods and/or professional video cameras are allowed.
Tour is not recommended for guests with mobility problems or wheelchair bound. Guests will meet the guide on arrival in Playa del Carmen. To avoid damaging the fragile ruins, climbing them is prohibited. Guests are recommended to bring reusable water bottles. The use of disposable plastic bottles is prohibited inside the ruins. For calls when the ship is in port 10 or more hours, this tour will last an hour longer and guests will have free time in Playa del Carmen. Guests will walk approximately 1.3 km at the ruins.
